About the recipe
I love the Japanese teriyaki marinade and it is so easy to make. Perfect with the best quality sirloin steaks you can get your hands on, marinade them, fry them in the wok until lovely and sticky but not too long so the inside of the beef is lovely and medium and juicy. Serve with rice and vegetables. Quick, easy, fast and delicious!
For the marinade
2 cloves, crushed
Low sodium light soy sauce -
100ml / 0.84 cup
Black pepper -
0.5 tsp ground
Sirloin steak -
2 x 200gl / 0.44 lb
For the garnish
White and black toasted sesame seeds -
300g / 0.66 lb tender stem, steamed to serve
Jasmine rice -
500g / 1.1 lb cooked (Thai jasmine rice)
- Combine all the marinade ingredients together and add the steaks to the bowl. Leave to marinade for a minimum of 10-15 minutes, overnight if you have the time.
- Heat a wok with the vegetable oil and when hot, drain the steak from its marinade and add to the pan. Fry for about 2 minutes on each side - it should still be quite pink in the centre. Pour the rest of the marinade over the steak and cook down until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the steak from the pan and allow to rest for 2 minutes. Slice the steak and serve with the steamed jasmine rice and tender stem broccoli. Drizzle over any sauce from the pan and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
