Every year on 31st October New York City throws the Halloween party to end all parties: its Village Halloween Parade! Running along 6th Avenue from Spring Street to 16th Street, the parade is vibrant, raucous and creative - as well as very spooky, of course. For one night only, from 7-11pm, the metropolis is taken over by an unmissable extravaganza... If you've always fancied taking centre stage, this is your moment. It's completely free to enter and the only rule is to come in full fancy dress: the weirder and more eye-catching the better! In this spectacular gathering of New Yorkers you can spot puppets, dancers, all kinds of musicians, and plenty of average Joes in the mood to show off! For those who are costume-shy, simply watching the display is always a popular option - the streets around 6th Ave. are always crowded with revellers soaking up the atmosphere. This year is the 40th anniversary of the event and the official theme is "Hallelujah Halloween Revival", celebrating the yearly cycle of renewal and new hope that NYC undergoes annually. The parade is a chance to re-imagine yourself as a wild, exotic, magical creature for one night, to re-awaken your sense of possibility and playfulness - and in the process, to rejuvenate your soul. And parade lovers outside NYC can join in this ritual too, as it's broadcast live on WPIX Channel 11 from 7.30pm and NY1 from 8pm... So there's really no excuse to miss out! Have a look at the Village Halloween Party site to get more info and tips on how to get involved. And most definitely tune in on the night to get a glimpse of the magic and be swept up in the party spirit yourself! x
