Foods to fight off a cold and flu!

  We all need to boost our immunity over the coming cold season and you can do this really effectively by adding some so-called ‘superfoods’ into your diet.  Good nutrition can really ward off infection and create a natural defence against colds and flus.     1. Ginger Contains anti-inflammatory compounds and phenols.  Will help sweat out toxins which is helpful if you have a cold or flu.  Also soothing for a sore throat and cough.   2. Citrus Fruits They are all rich in vitamin C, one of the most important antioxidants, and are a powerhouse of nutrients.     3. Mushrooms They have immune-boosting antioxidants, potassium, vitamin B and fibre.  I love shiitake mushrooms which have a great source of iron.   4. Leafy Greens The darker the leaves, the higher the nutrient content.  So, choose kale over iceberg for a great cold and flu defence.   5. Dark Chocolate Pure cocoa is packed with disease-fighting antioxidants and zinc.  Just eat in moderation, maybe just a couple of bite-sized portions as you don’t want the sugar and fat to undo all the good work.
