We all have our guilty pleasures and I very much believe that we all need some small indulgences in life to maintain a healthy balance. For me, a cup of good quality black coffee can really hit the spot. Although I like to limit my intake of caffeine, there are actually health benefits to the occasional cup. Coffee can boost your energy and increase your metabolic rate and with all the antioxidants in coffee, it can boost your overall health too, aiding weight loss and fighting off disease. A report recently suggested that by 2080 coffee may become extinct, or at best, very expensive, with an increase in demand and climate change to blame. We all need to take responsibility by buying sustainably sourced coffee. I try to stick to Fairtrade certified products. I like Gourmesso Coffee, who support Fairtrade and are competitively priced and their coffee pods can be used in my Nespresso machine. There are lots of different blends to choose from - the soffio vaniglia is one of my favourites with it’s delicious vanilla aroma and mild blend of coffee bean. A really delicate expresso - yum! Fairtrade ensures that the products are harvested and refined under the most responsible socially-economical conditions. Whether you are buying coffee, fruit, chocolate, cotton, flowers or even gold, try to look out for the Fairtrade Mark. It’s so easy and ensures better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. Love, Ching x
