Tart and tangy! January brings us a zesty abundance of citrus fruit to the table. You can’t deny that grapefruit and oranges don’t pack a flavour punch. Full of vitamin C; rich in citrus limonoids and soluble fibre, they are also believed to contain many alkalising minerals. Oranges are proven to help fight cancer and lower cholesterol. Grapefruits are a rich source of vitamin C, full of antioxidants and with a low GI, it is thought that they can help your body burn fat and loose weight, as part of a balanced diet. I love using citrus fruit in my recipes and is a brilliant way to help add and balance flavour. My Wok-fried sweet and sour chicken with apple and orange salad combines the nutrient powerhouse spinach with some zingy fruit.
