Only a couple more weeks until Christmas! There is so much rich and delicious food on offer, it’s really hard to resist. However, some of our favourite Christmas ingredients are already part of my Eat Clean essentials and with some simple changes, I can substitute some of our seasonal favourites into a healthy alternative, without compromising on flavour. Last week I looked at fresh cranberries and today I have chosen the rich and luxurious Smoked Salmon. With its rich and smoky flavour this popular delicacy can now be found on all supermarket shelves from cheap trimmings to the more indulgent hand cured wild smoked salmon. I like to make sure my smoked salmon is organic which delivers a very natural and delicate taste. Salmon is loaded with protein which aids the body with growth and repair. It has plenty of omega-3 fats, which can contribute to healthy brain function, heart health, joint mobility and general wellbeing. It’s also high in vitamin D, which contributes to bone density. As a lean protein, it also helps recovery and starts up your metabolism for the day. It needs very little cooking or preparation. I love eating a few slices on its own with a touch of lemon juice but if you are looking for a special Christmas Day breakfast, why not try my Protein-burst smoked salmon, spinach and chive egg-white omelette? With the addition of the superfood Spinach and the punch of vitamins, this is a decedent and nutrient-rich breakfast that will impress your guests and give you at least one fresh and clean meal on Christmas day.
