The apple tree in my back garden is literally weighed down with delicious apples at this time of year. With British apple season hitting around end of September through to November, there is an abundance of fruit to enjoy. If you don’t have an apple tree nearby, there are many commercial and public orchards that are happy for you to come pick your own. Take the apple, twist it gently and if the stalk comes away easily from the tree, it’s ready! They are also very easy to store. Wrap each apple in newspaper and store in a cool, dark, airy room in a shallow cardboard box. Or, stew with a little sugar which you can then freeze and use over the coming months.
